While people were taking a dip in the pool recently to beat the heat, the price of gas around New England took a bit of a dip, too.

The latest survey by GasBuddy.com finds the price of gas here in Maine dropped just under a penny from a week ago to an average $2.70 a gallon. In Presque Isle, most stations were showing a price of $2.82 a gallon as of Monday morning.

Gasoline fell 1.6 cents over the past week in New Hampshire to an average $2.63 a gallon. And, like Maine, Vermont's gasoline prices fell just under a penny to $2.71 a gallon.

Meanwhile, the national average price of gas dropped 3.5 cents a gallon from last week's price of $2.80. That's up 10.9 cents a gallon from last month, but is 6.7 cents a gallon below where it was last year at this time.
