The award pays for a full year of tuition at NMCC and was presented at a ceremony at the L.L. Bean Corporate Headquarters in Freeport, May 15.

The endowed scholarship was established in 2014 in honor of Gorman, the longtime president and CEO of L.L. Bean.  His wife Lisa Gorman expanded the scholarship last year to honor her late husband, so that a student on each campus of Maine’s community colleges could be awarded.

Hart, originally from Atlantic City, New Jersey, will be a senior in the Business Administration program this fall.  Hart was chosen for her strong academic achievement, financial need and commitment to community service.

“Genesis was an obvious choice for this award because of her involvement in the campus including yearbook staff, Student Senate and Phi Theta Kappa,” explained Dr. William Egeler, NMCC Dean of Students.  “She tutors fellow students and has a GPA of 3.6.  Additionally, Genesis has been accepted into the 2017 Maine NEW Leadership Summer Institute.  The Institute is a training program for students who are motivated to learn about the importance of women’s participation in public life.  We are thrilled that Genesis will benefit from this very generous scholarship.
