Nashville Predators Defeated in Stanley Cup Finals + Country Music Is Sad About It
The Nashville Predators hockey team lost the Stanley Cup to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday night (June 11), and country music had a shared emotional reaction.
The Penguins beat the Preds 2-0 during an intense game at Music City's Bridgestone Arena, and many of country music's biggest players were on hand in person to witness the loss, with dozens of other artists tweeting in the final moments of this match — Game 6 — of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Artists came out to support the team more than ever before in their race to the finish line this season, with Carrie Underwood, Little Big Town, Faith Hill, Lady Antebellum, Vince Gill, Kelly Clarkson, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride and Dierks Bentley singing the National Anthem before home games.
Underwood, of course, is married to the Predators' Team Captain, Mike Fisher, and has a vested interest in the team as a result. She was arguably their biggest supporter throughout the 2017 season, seemingly feeling the highs and lows to the extreme.
Old Dominion probably best summed up the city's emotions as a whole, writing after the defeat: "Nashville should have a parade for the Predators anyway. Unbelievable run."
