The Most Popular Grocery Store In New England is the Wrong One…
Okay, rant time.
Over the weekend I saw an Instagram post about the most popular grocery store in every state.
I did not even think I needed to look - the obvious answer is Market Basket...right?
It should be. Well in 5 out of 6 of the New England states, it is not.
Let's make it known that New Hampshire was the only state to get it right. Market Basket is the most popular grocery store in New Hampshire - good.
In Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, Stop & Shop was the #1 grocery store.
This is a sin.
Market Basket is far more elite than Stop & Shop on so many levels: mostly price, quality, and experience from a totally non-biased MB shopper.
Sure, the first Stop & Shop was opened in Massachusetts - so you may think it should have a home-state advantage. But Market Basket also started in Massachusetts, so that should even out.
According to a Check Book article, Market Basket’s prices were about 18 percent lower than the averages of all other stores. AKA Market Basket is the least expensive.
And it is not all about the price...good ole Market Bakset was rated well in “overall quality,” unlike others.
"Shaw’s, Star Market, and Stop & Shop received very low ratings from their surveyed customers...“quality of fresh produce,” “quality of meats,” and “overall quality,” according to Check Book.
When this survey comes out again in a few years Market Basket better be crushing in all of New England. Not just New Hampshire.
