More Patrols on Aroostook County ATV Trails
9 Caribou police officers will be patrolling ATV trails in Aroostook County for the next 3 years.
According to the Aroostook County Sheriff's Department, a plan to deputize the 9 officers was approved by the Aroostook County commissioners earlier this month.
This means that these 9 officers will be out patrolling ATV trails in conjunction with the Maine Warden Service, looking for people who may be consuming alcohol or operating an ATV illegally.
These officers have taken the ATV safety course and will be assigned to details outside of Caribou city limits, but within the Sheriff’s Department’s jurisdiction.
The Sheriff’s Department secured grant money to fund the project.
