Message On A Boat-le? Boat Set Afloat In Robbinston Found In NB, Canada

A few years ago, we brought you the story of a DOT worker in Norway (the country) who stumbled upon a DOT helmet that had washed up on the shore where he worked.

Sometimes it's kind of cool to see just how big and how small the world is, all at once. So when you hear of stories about items that originate in one place, but end up in another, it's neat to track the journey of how those things got to those places.

A woman in New Brunswick, Canada came across a little boat this week, on a beach along Deer Island, and took to social media to update those who originally launched the boat and let them know of its fate.

Lisa Miner lives in Canada, not far from the beach.

"I live a half kilometer from the beach and I go to that beach almost every day. A few years ago my granddaughters found a message in a bottle on a different beach but it was from some local kids. Still fun for everyone."

This week, on one of her daily walks along the water, she came across something kind of neat; a little wooden watercraft, with words written all over it.

"I enjoy beach combing and found the little boat on the western shore of Deer Island. It was at the high tide mark still upright. It had some damages so I brought it home and did some minor repairs and I dried it so I could write my name and Deer Island, NB and the date on it then returned it to the ocean on the southeastern side of this island so its journey can continue!"

Miner posted pictures of her discovery to a Facebook Group called "What's Happening Washington County, Maine."

"This washed up on the western shores of Deer Island. Took her home to dry out and repair, then will set her back in the ocean to continue the journey. Thought the builders might enjoy seeing the progress."

Sure enough, as sometimes happens with stories like this, someone recognized the vessel.

A woman named Joan Shelton responded to the post.

"Outstanding it made it so far! thank you, Lisa! please keep me posted on the relaunch! we sent it out Christmas Eve just before midnight...the boat launched from Hinton Pt in Robbinston."

There was even some chatter about possibly starting a Facebook Page to track the little boat's journey.

As for Miner, she says it's not the first time she's found such things along the shore, and will likely not be the last. And it's little mysteries like this that she looks forward to.

"It's like a message in a bottle story and I love living where we can find lost treasure and locate the sender of the message and let them know where their project is traveling."

I think we're all curious to see where this ship ends up next!
