More details are starting to come out about 3 bodies found in a home in Mechanic Falls, including that two of the deceased may have been children.

Police Have not Released New Details, As Yet

Mechanic Falls Police brought in the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit on Saturday afternoon after finding three deceased individuals at a residence on Highland Avenue. The deceased were brought to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for autopsies, that would help confirm their identities and determine their cause of death.

There's been no word from the police about the case beyond that, other than to say that there's no danger to the public. WGME-TV reports that a mother and her two children lived in the apartment.

The RSU #16 Superintendent Posted Information on the Department's Facebook Page

On Monday, a post on the Facebook page for Regional School Unit #16 spoke of two children who are believed to have been among the deceased. Amy Hediger is the Superintendent of Schools for RSU #16:

Our community is facing an unimaginable loss with the believed passing of two students from Elm Street School. Information spreads quickly, especially on social media, but we must rely on the Maine State Police, who are diligently conducting their investigation and will be the ones to officially release names and details.

Hediger goes on to discuss the many different ways people may react to this news and how important it is to acknowledge everyone's process.

Superintendent Hediger Says the School's Staff is Ready to Offer Support to Students

She gave a list of resources for parents/caregivers to access at home, as well as reassuring parents and students that the school's crisis team is putting together a plan on how best to respond. Those at-home resources can be found on the RSU#16 Facebook page.

If you or a loved one is in crisis, call the Maine Crisis Line 1-888-568-1112. Anyone feeling they are at an immediate risk of harm should call 911.
