McCluskey’s RV Center Is Gearing Up For Another Big Season

For over 75 years, McCluskey's RV Center has been Northern Maine's leading dealer for a full line of recreational vehicles, offering superior service to back up the products they sell. Ahead of the highly anticipated upcoming 2021 season, we sat down with their owner, Gary McCluskey, to get a sneak peek at what people can expect.

2020 was an interesting year and McCluskey's RV is looking to shake things up in 2021. Gary, what's your outlook for this year?

I've got a very strong outlook for 2021. Last season, we were worried that it was going to be a horrible season, but it ended up being a great season and we're anticipating another great season. We’re extremely optimistic that things are going to open up and really release very soon. Product is going to be available, it might just not be exactly to all your specs, but it's going to be out there and available.

I'm encouraging people to buy as early as possible. Shop early, get what you need, and be ready to go camping in May.

Everything's always been change, change, change. What's still going to be the same? What can we always expect from McCluskey's RV?

We don't change much. We've been here for over 70 years. Service is going to be the same, we're still taking care of the customer on a personal basis, it's still a family-run business, and parts are available. You may not walk in and get the part off the shelf that you want, so we may have to order it and have it shipped to the store, but everything is available.

One thing that's changing is the fact that there won't be an annual show this year. Tell us about that.

Correct. No annual show. But that doesn't mean we're not going to have some sort of promotion. We are going to have to wait for mother nature. We’re hoping that by the first of April that we're running full tilt. The plan is that some time mid-April we're going to have a lot promotion and invite everyone to our lot to see our 2021/2022 inventory. There will always be deals, incentives, and something special to help you get into that new camper you're looking for.

Production issues — we’ve seen it with a lot of goods. How is it effecting you compared to previous years?

There's a lot of new products. I’m expecting to be at around 90% of new inventory compared to in the past. As the season progresses, we'll be able to get more product. Again, I encourage people to shop early, buy early, and don't procrastinate. When you see something you like, grab it.

Is there anything people should know about what you're offering in terms of COVID-19 safety measures?

We're still distancing and requiring face masks inside the building until the state eases up those concerns. We're also still doing a lot of cleaning and the customers that don't feel comfortable mixing with other customers are certainly welcome to call and make an appointment for a private viewing.
