The season starts on Wednesday. The state's Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife says it will stock about 2,300 pheasants at 22 York and Cumberland county sites. Hunters must possess a pheasant permit along with a regular hunting license to hunt for the birds. The permits cost $19. Most stocked pheasant sites receive about 40 birds each time they are stocked.

The season lasts until Dec. 31. There is a two bird daily bag limit.

The seasons for ruffed grouse and bobwhite quail also begin on Wednesday and end on Dec. 31.
