Troop F of the Maine State Police responded to 109 calls for service this past week in and around Aroostook County. Here is a sampling from the Troop’s weekly report:

Incident Type: THEFT Date: 5/17/2018 Town: LINNEUS Trooper: TR. KILCOLLINS Brief Synopsis: Tr. Kilcollins received a complaint of a man that stole from the convenience store in Linneus. Houlton PD located the vehicle in town and stopped it at a gas station. The five occupants were removed from the vehicle and it was learned they borrowed the truck from a person in Lincoln and was supposed to have returned it several hours ago. The vehicle owner did not want theft charges but wanted the vehicle towed. The man in the vehicle responsible for stealing in Linneus was issued a criminal summons for theft. The vehicle was towed and the group made other arrangements to return to their homes in Lincoln.

Incident Type: DRIVING TO ENDANGER Date: 5/18/2018 Town: OAKFIELD Trooper: CPL. QUINT Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Quint was working on an investigation in Oakfield. While driving on the River Road he met a vehicle that failed to dim its headlights. When Cpl. Quint turned to stop the vehicle, the pickup started to speed up to around 71 mph. The vehicle then stopped in a private driveway. The man stated he was scared to stop because police officers shoot people and he wanted to get to his grandmother’s residence. The man is part of a burglary investigation being conducted by Cpl. Quint. The man was issued criminal summonses for eluding a police officer, driving to endanger, and a criminal summons for burglary.

Incident Type: LIQUOR VIOLATION Date: 5/18/2018 Town: FRENCHVILLE Trooper: TR. DESROSIER Brief Synopsis: Tr. Desrosier was conducting traffic enforcement in Frenchville. He observed a vehicle speeding and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. During the stop, it was suspected the 19-year-old driver had consumed liquor. Tr. Desrosier conducted Field Sobriety Testing but the woman did not appear to be drunk. Tr. Desrosier shifted his focus to the administrative violation of her consuming alcohol underage, her passenger was also consuming liquor and was also issued a summons for being a minor in possession of liquor via consumption.

Incident Type: ACCIDENT Date: 5/20/2018 Town: BRIDGEWATER Trooper: TR. KILCOLLINS Brief Synopsis: Tr. Kilcollins responded to a single vehicle rollover crash on the East Blaine Road in Bridgewater. A 16-year-old male was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee when he lost control while driving erratically on the dirt road. The vehicle went out of control and caught the grass in the ditch causing the vehicle to roll on its side. The 16-year-old male and his four adult passengers were not injured in the crash. The male was summonsed for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle and his four passengers were summonsed for seatbelt violations.

Incident Type: OUI Date: 5/20/2018 Town: MARS HILL Trooper: TR. KILCOLLINS Brief Synopsis: Tr. Kilcollins responded to a car that had gone off the road in Mars Hill. Tr. Kilcollins spoke with the 20-year-old operator who was trying to get home from a party the night before. While Tr. Kilcollins spoke with the operator he could smell the odor of alcohol coming from her breath. Tr. Kilcollins put the operator through a battery of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Tr. Kilcollins determined the woman to be impaired and transported her to PIPD for a breath test. The woman was subsequently arrested and charged with OUI and was bailed out.

Incident Type: OAS Date: 5/13/2018 Town: MONTICELLO Trooper: TR. ADAMS Brief Synopsis: Tr Adams made a traffic stop on a 29-year-old female and found that she was under suspension. Tr Adams summonsed the female for OAS.

Incident Type: OAS Date: 5/13/2018 Town: MONTICELLO Trooper: TR. ADAMS Brief Synopsis: Tr Adams was called to a reported motor vehicle crash in Monticello that was called in by the Maine Warden Service. Tr Adams arrived and found that the 21-year-old male operator was under suspension. Tr Adams summonsed the male for the violation.

Incident Type: THEFT Date: 5/15/2018 Town: MADAWASKA LAKE Trooper: TR. CURTIN Brief Synopsis: Tr. Curtin was called by a Madawaska Lake resident and informed of a theft that had occurred at his camp. The individual had been out fishing on the lake the day before and had not locked his door. The man reported that the next day he found approximately 20 Klondike Bars were missing from his freezer. In an interesting twist, 2 steaks were left behind. The investigation is ongoing.

Incident Type: SUSPICOUS INCIDENT Date: 5/15/2018 Town: NEW CANADA Trooper: TR. CURTIN Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Michaud and Tr. Curtin responded to New Canada when a local resident reported that someone had come onto his property, waved a gun around, yelled at him, and then left. The individual who was alleged to be on the complainant’s property was not located that evening, but was found later the next day. He denied the incident took place and was given a trespass warning at the request of the complainant. The investigation is ongoing.

Incident Type: PUBLIC RELATIONS Date: 5/18/2018 Town: Pick town or Free Fill Trooper: SGT. HAINES Brief Synopsis: ALICE training continued this week. RSU 50 and SAD 1 attended training sessions. The training continues to be well-received by local districts and other schools are being added to the schedule on a regular basis.
