UPDATE: Press release from the Maine State Police

State Police say an Oakland man was killed Tuesday morning when his pickup was struck by another truck on Route 3 in Liberty.

55-year-old William Chadwick died in the accident. Troopers said a box truck crossed the center line and collided with Chadwick’s GMC Sierra head on. The Freightliner box truck was operated by 20-year-old Dusan Dokic of Spanaway, Washington, who was not injured.

Both trucks came to rest in the ditch, on the lake side of Route 3, by the state park. The road was closed for three hours as the crash was investigated. DEP also responded to clean up fuel oil that spilled from the larger truck’s fuel tank.

Although the crash took place during today’s snow storm, troopers have reached no conclusions on why the crash took place and will continue to investigate why the larger truck crossed into the opposite lane.
