Whether you want to believe it or not, the summer in Maine is winding down.

Tourism hotspots from Bar Harbor to Old Orchard Beach are preparing for their final 'big' weekend over the Labor Day holiday.

The Maine State Police are also preparing for the celebrations surrounding that holiday as well.

Shared on social media, the Maine State Police announced a plan to increase patrols and detail in hopes of curbing drunk driving through the remainder of August as well as through the Labor Day holiday.

It's part of a renewed effort in the long-running 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' campaign.

The Maine State Police remind all individuals planning to celebrate the end of summer and Labor Day to keep 3 important things in mind:

  • Designate a sober driver if celebrations are going to include alcohol or substances that could impair driving
  • There is never an instance where it is ok to drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs,
  • If you happen to witness anyone driving erratically, you're asked to call your local police department or use 911 to report it
