Reopening Went Swimmingly at Maine State Aquarium

As of today, June 26th, 2024, the Maine State Aquarium is back in business after a 4-year hiatus thanks to the pandemic.

The state took advantage of the aquarium's forced closure and delayed reopening further for renovations and improvements to the popular and educational tourist stop that originally opened in 1993 in Booth Bay Harbor.

Maine State Aquarium Underwent $1.1 Million in Upgrades

Visitors can learn about the Gulf of Maine's ecosystem and everything that lives in and around the water along Maine's beautiful coast at Maine State Aquarium. There are now two 1300-gallon interactive touch tanks, one that has been added during the renovations, for a unique, educational experience.

Hours and Admission into Maine State Aquarium

Beginning today (June 26th, 2024), Maine State Aquarium will be open Wednesdays thru Sundays until Labor Day Weekend. On maine.gov, the hours are listed as 10am until 4pm, however it is recommended that their social media pages are followed for the latest reopening updates.

If you plan to visit the aquarium often with multiple family members, an annual pass is suggested, and groups of 10 or more need to book in advance. Otherwise, for adults 13 to 59-years-old, it is $10. Children 3 to 10-years-old are $7.50, and seniors 60-plus and military personnel active and retired are $7.50.

Maine State Aquarium has already had some important visitors since reopening including Governor Janet Mills to admire the improvements that cost over a million dollars. In addition to structural and exhibits being improved, opportunities are now being offered to interview the researchers at Maine State Aquarium. Matt Davis will talk about shark research, Danielle Frechette will talk about sea run fisheries and community science, and Jes Waller will talk about monitoring and assessment.
