Maine Police Rescue Student from Utility Tunnel at Colby College
WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) — Police have rescued a Maine college student who hit and cut her head after crawling into a campus utility tunnel.
The Morning Sentinel reports police were called to Colby College in Waterville early Sunday.
Authorities say the 18-year-old student was about 15 feet (4.5 meters) from the bottom of the tunnel under the college's Leonard Hall when she hit and cut her head. An officer searching for the student found a trail of blood in the tunnel.
The student was taken to a hospital for treatment. Her name wasn't released.
Police were unable to speak with the student, and couldn't determine how or why she was in the tunnel. Chief Joseph Massey believes she crawled into the tunnel on her own.
A Colby spokeswoman says the school is investigating.
