The lead prosecutor told jurors that 25-year-old Timothy Danforth of Wilton killed a man in June 2016 over a $200 bag of marijuana.

The victim, 24-year-old Michael Reis of New Sharon, was struck three times by shotgun blasts outside the home of Danforth's father.

The Sun Journal reports that Danforth turned down a deal to plead guilty to manslaughter before the trial began.

The newspaper said Assistant Attorney General Bud Ellis told jurors that Reis was unarmed while defense lawyer Sarah Glynn called it a case of self-defense and said the Danforth family dialed 911. Friends brought Reis to a hospital where he was declared dead.
