Another Maine Man Faces Charges For The U.S. Capitol Breach
A Lewiston man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting Police during the 2021 U.S. Capitol breach.
Maine Man is Charged With Both Felonies and Misdemeanors for the Capitol Breach
Andre Maurice Bonneau, 64, of Lewiston is charged in a criminal complaint, filed in the District of Columbia. Charges against him include felony offenses of assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers and obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder. In addition to the felonies, he's charged with misdemeanor offenses of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds, as well as disorderly conduct in a Capitol building.

Bonneau's Actions Were Thwarted By Police
According to the U.S. Attorneys Office, District of Columbia, court documents state that Bonneau is seen on camera footage allegedly grabbing a bike rack. Despite orders from the police officers to 'get back,' he allegedly used his body weight to push the rack into the officers in an apparent attempt to breach the police line. A struggle ensued and the officers successfully repelled Bonneau's advance using their riot batons and by deploying a chemical irritant.
More Than 1,500 People Have Been Charged for the U.S. Capitol Breach
In the 44 months since the January 6, 2021 incident, more than 1,504 individuals have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the Breach of the U.S. Capitol, including more than 560 people charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement, which is a felony. The investigation is ongoing.
