Maine Gets Help To Fight Worsening Drug Overdose Epidemic

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Groups that work to curb Maine’s drug overdose epidemic are slated to receive more than $900,000 from the federal government.

Drug overdoses killed 380 Maine residents last year, and the pace of deaths increased in the first half of 2020.

Maine’s U.S. senators say the grants from the Office of National Drug Control Policy will provide resources to combat the epidemic.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins and independent Sen. Angus King says the grants are slated to go to organizations including Aroostook County Action Program, Sebsticook Valley Hospital and University of New England.
