Thank You to the Mainers Who Helped Save a Poor Moose Trapped in a Well
In a time when all we seem to hear about is one sad story after another, I want to say thank you for this good news.
Maine wardens rescued a moose that had been trapped in an old well for hours. The poor thing never could have gotten out of there on his own.
According to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries Facebook page, the moose had fallen into an old well and apparently made quite a racket that got the attention of the land owner. The landowner immediately called the Maine Game Wardens who sprung into action.

The Game Wardens had to sedate the moose and use an excavator to get the poor thing out. Imagine getting that phone call:
- Game Warden: "Hello, Harry? I need to borrow your excavator."
- Harry: "Sure, Warden. I gotta gas it up and clean it up a bit, but sure. What for?"
- Game Warden: "I need to save a Moose that got trapped in an old well before the sedative wears off of the big fellah. Just another day at the office stuff, you know."
After the moose got out of the well and his drugs wore off, he took off running and looked fine and dandy. No bruises.... except as the Game Wardens said in their post, "his ego." I can't imagine what he told "Mrs. Moose" when he got back home.
- Mr. Moose: "Honey, I was late because I got stuck in a well. Seriously, it happened, it's gonna be all over the news. You gotta believe me."
- Mrs. Moose: "You're sleeping outside tonight."
- Mr. Moose: "But I always sleep outside."
- Mrs. Moose: "Watch it, Bub."
Thank you to everyone involved in that rescue. People with a common goal made that happen and it was really lovely to hear.
