This City in Maine Ranked as One of the Best for Summer Jobs
For those looking for seasonal work this summer, one city in our Pine Tree State has been ranked as one of the best in the country!
We recently talked with country music star George Birge ahead of his stop in Bangor at the Maine Savings Amphitheater for Parker McCollum’s ‘Burn It Down Tour 2024.’ He said he had this date in Maine circled on the calendar for 'a long time' because 'summer up there in Maine is pretty unbeatable.'
So really, it's no surprise that Maine is home to a city that's best for summer jobs.
Flat-out, Maine summers are unmatched. Even George Birge, someone 'from away,' recognizes that while winter in Maine is fine, summer is REALLY why we're known as 'Vacationland.'
But how does one determine what makes a city 'one of the best' for summer jobs?
The personal finance website WalletHub recently released their report on the ‘Best Places for Summer Jobs’ in 2024, and Maine had some representation towards the top of the list.
WalletHub's methodology for determining the ‘Best Places for Summer Jobs’ in 2024 involved comparing over 180 U.S. markets across 21 key indicators. These indicators encompassed employment outlook, affordability, and downtime-friendliness. The data set included factors such as the median income of part-time workers, the availability of summer jobs, and the commuter-friendliness of jobs.
This comprehensive analysis from WalletHub aimed to identify the best locations for young adults seeking to earn extra money or gain work experience during the summer months, taking into account variations in local costs, minimum wage laws, and other economic factors.
With all of this being said, which city in Maine ranked highly on WalletHub’s list?
Maine’s largest and most populated city, Portland, ranked 4th overall out of the 182 cities considered in this report.
Additionally, Portland scored well in regard to its youth job market and overall social environment. Portland ranks 10th in the nation for its youth job market, highlighting the availability of job opportunities for young people.
On top of that, Portland ranks 8th for its social environment and affordability, making it an attractive place for young adults to live and work.
This combination of strong job prospects and a supportive community environment contributes to Portland’s appeal as a top city for youth and summer jobs!
