Maine Camp Burned Down; Man Charged with Arson
The State Fire Marshal’s Office has charged a young man from Warren in connection with a fire that burned down a camp in Warren in April.
20-year-old Thomas Sawyer is charged with arson. He was told of the charges Friday at the Two Bridges Jail in Wiscasset, where he was being held on unrelated burglary charges.
Fire Investigators say Sawyer and two teenage boys set fire to the seasonal camp of George Gibson from Stoughton, MA.on April 6. The camp, located the St. George’s River, had been owned by the Gibson family for years. The building was destroyed and was located on the Clements Point Road.
Investigators say Sawyer and the two boys, who are ages 14 and 17, went to the property in the early morning hours and set the camp on fire because they were “bored”. No charges have been lodged against the teenagers at this point. Fire Marshals say the sheriff offices in Lincoln and Knox counties assisted in the investigation.
