This Maine Bar Was Named Best ‘Dive’ in the State
It’s no secret that our Pine Tree State is filled with great places to unwind and grab a drink, but this one, in particular, is apparently the best!
Dive bars often get a bad rap just from their name, but truly, they're beloved by many. Unlike fancy restaurants or upscale breweries, dive bars are generally more down-to-earth.
But first, what even is a dive bar?
According to a Wikipedia article—and we all know that those are the be-all and end-all when it comes to trustworthy sources on the internet—a dive bar is typically a small, unglamorous, eclectic, old-style drinking establishment with inexpensive drinks.
It may feature dim lighting, shabby or dated decor, neon beer signs, packaged beer sales, cash-only service, and local folks. Maybe at first, you didn't think your favorite drinking spot was considered a ‘dive,’ but after that description, you might be rethinking some things.
How does one even determine what the best ‘dive’ bars are?
The publication 24/7 Wall St. released an article highlighting the ‘Best Dive Bar in Every State.’ To determine these selections, 24/7 Wall St. analyzed ratings and reviews from Yelp for establishments that self-identified as dive bars.
They excluded those that were primarily restaurants, sports bars, chain operations, or lacked quintessential dive bar characteristics. Additionally, they reviewed dive bar roundups from various sources such as Thrillist, Eater, Tasting Table, and The Daily Meal, along with local and regional websites and the bars' own online presence.
So what is 24/7 Wall St.’s pick for the best ‘dive’ in Maine?
24/7 Wall St. has chosen Ruski’s Tavern in Portland, and they had the following to say:
Uncommonly for a dive bar, Ruski’s serves what many reviewers hail as excellent food – including hearty breakfasts. Yelpers call the place “unpretentious, casual, and…a great mix of locals of all ages and backgrounds” and note that “The drinks are strong, the service is warm and the music will keep you bopping.”
What are your thoughts on the best ‘dive’ bar in Maine? Have you ever been to Ruski’s Tavern in Portland?
