After being questioned earlier today by U.S. Senator and former Caribou resident Susan Collins, the agency's director confirmed that the Limestone site is actually being considered. Collins said the area would be receptive to new defense department investments.

A new type of interceptor system has been recommended to be placed in northern Maine or upstate New York by The National Academy’s National Research Council. The Obama administration plans to conduct environmental impact reviews but is not currently obligated to build a new facility.
