Law Enforcement Torch Run To Benefit Special Olympics In The County

We're so thankful for people that try to raise money and awareness for those who have special needs in their life. Our law enforcement officers are stepping up to the plate.

The Maine Law Enforcement Torch Run will take place June 6-9. Over 700 members of Maine Law Enforcement will be participating in the run across the Pine Tree State and acting as Guardians of the Flame carrying the Flame of Hope to raise funds for and an awareness of Special Olympics Maine.

On Wednesday, June 7, the run will begin in Ft. Kent around 8 a.m., making their way to Caribou. The runners will begin again on Wednesday morning, making their way to Mars Hill, locally.

According to P.I.P.D. Sgt. Joey Seely, the runners should be on Main Street in Presque Isle somewhere around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.

The run will eventually end in a brief final leg at the University of Maine Orono on Friday afternoon around 4 p.m.

Last year's Torch Run raised close to $400,000 for Special Olympics Maine and with over a one million dollar annual budget, those are much-needed funds.
