Two people suspected of robbing a store in Jay are hospitalized after crashing their car during a police pursuit.

Where Was the Robbery?

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says the incident happened just before 8:00 Tuesday night. The Jay Police Department received a report of a robbery at the Label Shopper Store in the Jay Plaza and went to the location to investigate.

What Happened in the Crash?

A Jay Officer located the vehicle as it was leaving the plaza and activated its emergency lights. The silver 2009 Pontiac G6 initially pulled over and stopped but then took off, driving north on Main Street. The Officer pursued the vehicle until it crashed in the area of the intersection between Routes 17 and 4.

Who Were the Suspects and How Badly Were They Hurt?

Both occupants of the vehicle were badly hurt and flown to local hospitals by Life Flight. Officials say the driver, Vanessa Gordon, 33, of Livermore Falls sustained life-threatening injuries. Police determined that she had a revoked license. Her passenger, Joshua Allen, 38, of Farmington suffered serious injuries.

The incident remains under investigation with the Maine State Police handling the crash and Jay Police taking care of the robbery. Assisting Maine State Police and Jay Police in the initial investigation were members of the Jay, Wilton, and Livermore Falls Police Departments, Franklin Count Sheriff's Department, Jay and Wilton Fire Departments, NorthStar Ambulance, and Life Flight of Maine.
