You Know What’s Pretty Cool: You Can Help Mainers With Cancer Just By Lacing Up Your Shoes To ‘Pound The Pavement!’
I'm not sure there's a place on Earth that cancer hasn't touched, and therefore, it more than likely that most people around have somehow directly or indirectly been affected by the disease.

For those battling the illness, and their loved ones, support can be a crucial part of overcoming a negative outcome.

Christina Parrish knows that battle well, and personally, having been diagnosed with cancer over a decade ago. As a survivor, Parrish wanted to do something to help those going through similar situations, so she created the Purple Iris Foundation, an organization that helps supply resources and support to Mainers battling cancer.
Throughout the year, the Purple Iris Foundation raises funds to be able to fulfill the mission, the biggest of which is a fun fall color run called "Pound the Pavement."
"Our biggest year for Pound the Pavement was 2019 before covid. That year we had 504 total participants. This year we are trending to surpass that number. "

"At each kilometer mark, Pound the Pavement runners/walkers are doused from head to toe in a different colored powder. Participants wear white at the starting line and finish the race plastered in color."

"Once the run/walk is over, the fun continues at the finish line with a visit to the Sea Dog and two (2) complimentary beverages for all those 21 years of age and over! Don't miss the party with photo ops, friendship, and celebration!"
It's like a giant party on the waterfront for a great cause. There's music, food, prizes and fun!

This year's event is taking place this Sunday, October 4th, starting at 8 AM. The race will both begin and end in the parking lot behind the Sea Dog restaurant on the Bangor waterfront.

Who can participate?
There is a "PTP Junior Mad Dash Of Color" kid's run that takes place before the actual color run, so kids are absolutely invited to register and join in the fun and good vibes.
You can register as an individual or a team.
Survivors are invited to participate at no cost at all.
