A hot air balloon struck some power lines in Presque Isle Saturday morning as spectators looked on, according to the Presque Isle Fire Department.

The incident occurred shortly after 7:00 a.m. on the Higgins Road. The balloon reportedly clipped the lines after traveling just a couple of miles from the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest launch area.

Members of Presque Isle Public Safety were already on scene and were able to promptly block off access to the site.

There was smoke visible at the scene, although it was not clear if there was any significant fire.

Presque Isle Fire and Ambulance responded with three vehicles and had to carefully navigate through a large number of spectators and vehicles parked along the roadway, according to a news release Saturday morning.

Presque Isle Public Safety said no one was injured in the collision and there were no reported injuries on the ground.

A Versant Power crew responded to repair the damaged power lines.
