Butch Asselin gave his resignation at Monday night's town council meeting.

Asselin is moving to the southern part of the state to be closer to his family and grandchildren. He says the decision didn’t come easily, but he feels it’s the right move.

Speaking to WAGM-TV, Asselin says “I’ve served the town of Houlton seven years as a police chief and the last three as town manager and I have absolutely no regrets and I’m very humbled to be able to serve the town and grateful for be given this opportunity.”

Asselin's final day as town manager will be August 15. Assistant Town Manager Cathy O'Leary will be the interim town manager until a replacement is found.
