Governor Janet Mills is Positive for Covid, Says She Feels Fine

Governor Janet Mills says she has tested positive for Covid and will not be meeting with First Lady Jill Biden later in the week.

How is the Governor Feeling?

This is her second diagnosis for the virus. Mills tested positive last April and returned to work after isolating for a few days. On Sunday, she announced that she has, once again, tested positive for Covid-19, but is not experiencing any serious symptoms.

Other than a scratchy throat, I feel fine. I will work remotely over the next few days and I look forward to getting back to the office later this week.

Governor Mills is fully vaccinated and boosted which, she says, is likely contributing to her mild symptoms and good prognosis.

Will this Affect the Governor's Planned Meeting with First Lady Jill Biden?

Because of the Covid diagnosis, Governor Mills says she will not be meeting with First Lady Jill Biden when she visits Maine later this week. Biden will come to the state as part of the Biden-Harris administration's 'Investing in America Tour.' The event intends to highlight how President Biden's economic policies are supporting hardworking Americans across the country, according to a media release from the White House.

How is the Covid Transmission Rate in Maine Right Now?

Health officials with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control report that all Maine counties have a low rate of community transmission, possibly due to the fact that we also have the highest percentage of residents age 65 and older with an updated (bivalent) booster.
