On Tuesday, we were shocked to get the news that, for the second time in less than a month, a child had died in a school bus-related crash.

The incident, which killed a 5-year-old kindergartener named Simon Gonzalez, happened around 7:30 AM on Route 35 in Standish, Maine.

As the father of two young daughters and a grown son, I can only imagine the pain that this family must be going through.  I am sure that you agree with me that our hearts are collectively broken for this family.  My thoughts and prayers are with them.

Now, a local woman has stepped up to organize a GoFundMe to help the family of Simon.

The GoFundMe says, in part:

My name is Taylor Lien. I am starting this GoFundMe on behalf of Simon Gonzalez (5), son of Thomas Gonzalez and Natasha Gonzalez. Simon was tragically killed in a bus accident this m

orning in Standish, Maine. As you can imagine, the family is unprepared for this tragedy and will need all the help they can get.

The organizer explained that, while she is not a blood relative of Simon:

as a mother, my heart broke and i just wanted to help.. that is all i am trying to do, and will continue to do. all the money that is raised and continuing to be raised is going to the immediate family, directly. and will benefit simons legacy.

The current goal is $60,000.  So far, about $40,000 has been raised.  You can make your donation HERE.
