A Gardiner man is accused in the elder abuse of a 91-year-old family member.

Who Is the Suspect?

David Dineen, 59, is facing multiple charges in connection to an investigation of the abuse of an elderly person on Highland Avenue in Gardiner.

David Dineen is charged with:

  • Endangering the welfare of a dependent person
  • Aggravated assault with a weapon
  • Domestic violence assault
  • Criminal threatening

All four charges are felonies. Dineen was taken to the Kennebec County Jail in Augusta on $10,000 cash bail. His bail conditions include having no contact with the victim or witnesses.

What Charges Does He Face?

The incident was reported on April 13th and involved a 91-year-old relative of Dineen's. According to the Kennebec Journal, officials have not given any details about the extent of the abuse or whether a weapon was used. He was arrested that same day.

Officials say Dineen has a history of domestic assault, having pleaded guilty to domestic violence assault ten years ago after being accused of causing injury to his then-girlfriend and the mother of his child. The woman's injuries included fractured ribs, a collapsed lung, and a stab wound in her thigh.
