It seems to be a good thing when great opportunities open for people, especially when those opportunities open up for our young people in the County.

That's exactly what is happening at the Fort Kent Outdoor Center as they are offering opportunities for youngsters in grades 6 - 12 to be trained in roller skiing and shooting training in hopes that they might compete at international competitions.

Fiddlehead Focus reports that Carl Theriault, FKOC President, is involved with coaching kids, with all levels of experience, at the upcoming Jalbert Youth Ski Program.

According to the report, Theriault hopes that students from the ski program might be trained well enough to compete at the Biathlon Junior World Championships in Slovakia.

Cody Johnson from Fort Kent has competed in the world championship in the past.

The program provides the ski equipment and rifles, however there is a $30 charge for ammunition costs.

For more information about the program, you can email Carl Theriault here.
