Fort Fairfield’s Chief of Police Resigns, Takes MDEA Position

Fort Fairfield’s Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police, Chief William Campbell, has announced his resignation. 

Chief Campbell, a 30-year veteran of law enforcement, will be continuing his distinguished law enforcement career by pursuing an opportunity with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. His resignation is effective March 4, 2016.

Chief Campbell has been the Chief of the Fort Fairfield Police Department since 2011 and was promoted to Director of Public Safety in 2015.  As the of Director of Public Safety, Chief Campbell oversaw the operations of the police and fire departments, and served as the town’s emergency management director.

I have truly enjoyed my time serving the people of Fort Fairfield,” stated Chief Campbell.  “Leaving the department was a very difficult decision to make, but I know the community will continue to be well-served by the dedicated officers of the police department and the officers and volunteers who serve in the fire department.”

Fort Fairfield Police Sergeant Shawn Newell was promoted to Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police by the Fort Fairfield Town Manager on February 18th.  Newell, a 21-year veteran of law enforcement, started working as sergeant for the Fort Fairfield Police Department in 2009.
