How Did Boyd Meet the Victim?

Court documents state that Boyd met the victim and her family in church and became a trusted family friend. But, according to the Morning Sentinel, he sexually assaulted the young girl multiple times over a six-month period in 2014.

His defense attorney argued that Boyd was abused as a child and so had become desensitized to the trauma of abuse. Many people, including members of the church, testified on his behalf. But the judge said during sentencing that the testimony of the victim, who is now 18, weighed heavily in his decision to give a lengthy sentence, stating that all the girl can remember from her childhood is abuse.

When Did Boyd Resign as Fire Chief?

Prior to his arrest, Boyd was the Fire Chief for the town of Athens. He had also served on the school board and was a deacon at his church. He resigned his post with the fire department after his arrest.

Once he has completed his sentence, Boyd will be required to register as a sex offender and undergo sex offender counseling. In addition, he is to have no contact with the victim, her family, or anyone under the age of 18.
