Fire in Castle Hill, Maine Destroys Structure
The Mapleton, Castle Hill, Chapman Fire Department responded to a single-story ranch structure fire Friday morning at 106 Macdonald Rd in Castle Hill.
The fire was reported by a passerby around 10:15 a.m. Officials said the homeowner, Steve Brazier, was working at the time.
Firefighters found the structure fully engulfed with part of the roof collapsed when they arrived. Captain Robby Gross said “an exterior attack commenced.” There was a quick knock down of the fire and firefighters focused on overhaul and salvage until the blaze was fully controlled and out. The firefight lasted approximately 4 hours.
A family pet died as the result of the fire. There were no other injuries said Gross.
Due to the extensive damage before initial attack, the structure was deemed to be a total loss.
The State Fire Marshal’s office was called and the origin of the fire is under investigation at this time.
Mutual aid was provided by Presque Isle, Washburn, and Ashland Fire Departments. Crown Ambulance and EMERA assisted at the scene as well.
