FARMINGTON, Maine (AP) — The family of a Maine firefighter killed in a propane explosion has hired a law firm to investigate what caused the leak in the days leading up to the blast.

The September explosion at LEAP, Inc., in Farmington killed 68-year-old fire Capt. Michael Bell and injured several people, including six other firefighters who have since been released from the hospital.

An attorney with Berman & Simmons said in a statement that the firm is working with experts to understand what happened.

WLBZ-TV reports the Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced it will be inspecting LEAP, Inc., and three other employers who were working at the new building at the time of the explosion.

Officials say they will be determining whether employers complied with applicable health and safety standards.
