Desert of Maine Bought by Freeport Couple

The Desert of Maine will live on and will also be spiffed up.

Have you been to the Desert of Maine in Freeport? It's such a weird and awesome landmark and it was for sale. Not anymore! The new owners according to WGME 13, are Mela and Doug Heestand who live in Freeport.

The Desert of Maine is considered a geological wonder with vast expanses of sand, that's attracted tourists for nearly a century, dating back to 1925.

 

Mela and Doug plan on doing a lot of renovations and that includes the campground.

And good news Freeporters! If you live in Freeport, you get in free to the new and improved Desert of Maine for the upcoming season.

The Desert of Maine will open in May.
