Did you know that on this day in Country Music History in 2008 George Strait and co-producer Tony Brown shared Album of the Year?

It's true! It was for "Troubadour"; and Single of the Year, for "I Saw God Today"; during the CBS telecast of the 42nd annual Country Music Association Awards at Nashville's Sommet Center.

• He served in the Army from 1971-75.
• His first No. 1 country song was 1982's "Fool Hearted Memory." As of 2007, he has a total of 54 chart-toppers from his winning mix of honky-tonk and Western swing.
• He is a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
• In 1986, his 13-year-old daughter Jenifer was killed in a motorcycle crash. He dedicated his CMA Male Vocalist of the Year award that year to her memory.
• He made People's most beautiful list in 1990.
