"A Boy Named Sue" was released by Columbia records, July 2, 1969. The song was recorded at San Quentin Prison in with Carl Perkins backing him up. Here's the footage from that legendary performance.

"A Boy Named Sue" went on to be one of Cash's biggest songs on the charts - both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Hot Country Songs.

Shel Silverstein wrote the song, and June Cash played a big role in it becoming a hit and a part of popular culture.
