Caribou Maine is on the map for potatoes - of course - but just recently had a potato named after itself - the Caribou Russet.

WAGM TV and KatieZarrilli reports:

Tim Hobbs is the director of development and grower relations at the Maine Potato Board. He says it takes a long time to develop a potato variety, it’s years worth of trial and error. The Caribou Russet was designed specifically for french fries but also does well mashed and baked- comparable to the Russet Burbank.

Take a look at this video and see how far potato farming has come in Caribou. This 8mm film from the 1970's is great old school archives.

Here's a video showing modern harvesting technology in Northern Maine.
