According to Tasting Table and their recent report highlighting ‘The Absolute Best Steakhouse in Every State,’ as of October 1st, 2025, their pick for Maine is The Grill Room & Bar on Exchange Street in Portland. Tasting Table had the following to say about their selection:

“The Grill Room & Bar has been winning awards since it opened in 2008, and customers praise everything from the happy hour to the steak tartare appetizers and the steaks themselves.”

The Grill Room & Bar, located at 84 Exchange Street in Portland, tragically lost its head chef, Declan Perry, in 2025.

Tasting Table notes that the staff has vowed to honor his memory through every dish they serve, and even months after Perry’s passing, his influence and dedication remain central to the restaurant’s identity.
