
61-Year-Old Man Died after Police-Involved Shooting in Maine
A 61-year-old man was shot and killed by a Sheriff’s Deputy in Phillips on Tuesday evening.
911 Calls said Man had Gun
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said several 911 callers reported seeing a man with a gun who appeared suicidal. One witness said they thought it might be a BB gun, according to WGME News.
Located on Side of Bridge
Deputy Jesse Clement located Lawrence Scott on the side of a bridge on Salem Road. Clement tried to get Scott help, but he refused.
Deputy Shot and Killed Man with Gun
The Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Clement told Scott to drop the gun, but he refused. Scott allegedly raised the gun at Clement, and the Deputy shot and killed him. Scott was pronounced dead at the scene.
Administrative Leave
Clement was put on administrative leave as is standard protocol. The Attorney General’s Office is investigating.
