6-Year-Old Boy Hit, Killed By School Bus in Central Maine
RUMFORD, Maine (AP) — Police say a 6-year-old boy crossing a Rumford street on his bicycle was killed by a school bus.
Police Chief Stacy Carter says the boy had rode off the sidewalk into an intersection at about 3 p.m. Wednesday as the bus with four students on board turned through the intersection.
Carter says the boy attempted to brake but he fell into the road. She says the child was then struck by a rear tire of the bus.
Carter says the investigation into the crash continues. A State Police crash reconstruction team was on scene.
RSU 10 Superintendent Deborah Alden says the boy was a first-grader at Rumford Elementary School.
