You have to admit that one of the nice things about living in Maine is that, except for a few of the larger cities in our state, and mostly along the highways, we don't really encounter major traffic issues like they have elsewhere.

Sure, we're slowed down by wildlife, tourists, or what seem to be never-ending construction zones at times, but when it comes to things like bumper-to-bumper grinds and long waits at traffic lights, we have it pretty good.

Some towns in Maine have only one stoplight. (I bet there are more that don't have any!)

Here are 4 Maine towns that have only one stoplight.

Veazie

It probably comes as no surprise to anyone familiar with Veazie, because it's not known as a bustling metropolis (one of the most exciting moments to happen in a while was when the town got its very own Dunkin drive-thru!) Veazie, the quaint little town that sits between Bangor and Orono, boasts only one stoplight...and for most of the time I can remember (spending over 4 decades in the area) it's been a blinking light.

Bar Harbor

Despite the thousands of people who visit the MDI region and Acadia National Park each year, it's hard to believe the actual town of Bar Harbor has only one stoplight. It's on the corner of Mt. Desert St. and Highway 3. While there are a couple of others in the outer area of MDI, this particular spot has the only stoplight in Bar Harbor.

Bucksport

While some towns don't make a big deal about only having one stoplight, others like Bucksport proudly feature that information on the front page of their municipal website!

"Bucksport is located along US Route 1, a major route taken every year by vacationers heading to and from Mount Desert Island and points downeast...So, how do you get to our downtown area, you ask? There couldn’t be any simpler directions: just turn left on to Main Street when you come to the only traffic light in Bucksport! "

There is a lovely simplicity and a bit of small-town charm to know that when you mention "turn left at the light," or "let's meet up down by the stoplight," no one is going to get confused as to where to go.

What other towns in Maine have only one stoplight?

You mentioned that there's also one stoplight in the Milford/Bradley area, Dexter, Camden and Rockport.

Feel free to add to our list.
