Augusta Police say  no one was hurt when two men began shooting firearms on Saturday.

Where Did This Happen?

According to Augusta Police Deputy Chief Kevin Lully, the incident was reported to police through multiple 911 calls. At approximately 6:30 Saturday night, Augusta Police Officers responded to the reports of a person or persons shooting firearms in the area of Water Street.

Who Was Arrested?

When they arrived, they found two people who were subsequently arrested:

  • Peter Gabriel, 30, of Pleasant Point is charged with reckless conduct with a firearm, criminal threatening with a firearm, and aggravated assault
  • Austin Saucier, 28, of West Enfield is charged with reckless conduct with a firearm, criminal threatening with a firearm, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and violation of a protection from abuse order.

Both men were taken to the Kennebec County Jail. Gabriel is being held on $3,500 cash bail and Saucier is being held without bail.

What Do We Know About Why They Were Shooting?

No one was hurt in the incident that remains under investigation. Police have not commented on the nature of the altercation or what sparked the exchange of gunfire.
