Aroostook Aspirations Initiative released a recent report developed by Plimpton Research at a press conference Wednesday afternoon at Northern Maine Community College.
In 2013, the United States had an elderly population (65 and older) of 44.5 million people, that's about 14.1 percent of the total population. the fastest rising age group in the past ten years has been those 85 and older. Maine has a large percentage of elderly people.
The latest numbers from the US census estimates shows that Maine's population grew at a very small rate from 2010 to 2015. How small? Maine only added 967 residents in that five year span. In fact, Maine actually lost population from 2014 to 2015.
