Girl Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash, Two Other Teens Injured
A single vehicle accident in the southern Maine town of Hiram has claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl and injured two teenage boys.
State Police say Alexia Valente was driving a 1998 Nissan Sentra on the River Road not far from her home in Hiram Wednesday evening when she lost control on a curve. The car went off the road and struck a tree on the driver’s side. Valente died at the scene.
Two passengers in the car, 17-year-old Christopher Eagles and 16-year-old Austin Lewis, both from Baldwin, were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with non-life threatening injuries.
Trooper Tom Welch said speed was a factor in the crash. He said there was no indication that any of the teens were wearing their seat belts.
Valente and the two boys were classmates at Sacopee Valley High School in Hiram.
The accident remains under investigation.
