Part of the Airline Rd. (Route 9) in Clifton is closed at this hour and will remain so for several hours to come dispatchers from the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office say, following a serious accident that took place along that stretch of road, just before 6 PM Tuesday night.

Authorities say the crash happened at 677 Airline Rd, which is down the road from the Clifton United Baptist Church and just before McCutcheon Rd.

According to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office,

"The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office is on the scene of a tractor-trailer truck and pick-up truck crash on Route 9 in Clifton.

We are asking motorists to seek alternative routes of travel. The crash is on Route 9, beyond Route 180."
Dispatchers say authorities are working with the Eddington Fire Department and the Maine DOT and have set up detours, taking folks from Route 180 through Route 181.
We're told Lifelight has been to the scene and did transport at least one patient.
Emergency crews are still on the scene trying to clean up the roadway and move the tractor-trailer.
No word yet on what caused the crash or the conditions of the people involved.
