Bluegrass five-piece Yonder Mountain String Band are premiering the studio version of their song “Alison” exclusively for readers of The Boot. The song comes from their just-announced new album, Love. Ain't Love.

Weaving classic bluegrass influences with modern stylings, “Alison” is about a fumbling stalker obsessed with a young woman named (you guessed it) Alison. The song’s lyrics, written by Yonder's guitarist and vocalist Adam Aijala, banjo player David Johnston and bassist Ben Kaufmann, are reminiscent of the Police’s “Every Breath You Take,” but with twang and a decidedly more upbeat vibe.

"Here I am, watching you / I couldn’t change my mind if I wanted to," the lyrics of "Alison" say. "I might fake out, and I might burn down."

“Alison” is the first song to be shared from Yonder Mountain String Band’s Love. Ain’t Love; the band announced their plans for the record on Wednesday (April 26). Yonder's first release in two years, Love. Ain’t Love is described by Aijala as the group's “best album yet.” It’s the result of the Colorado-based band's increased creative cohesion; the band added violinist Allie Kral and mandolin player Jacob Jolliff following mandolin player Jeff Austin's departure in 2014, and Yonder's five members have steadily gotten more comfortable playing and working together.

Love. Ain't Love is due out on June 23. Visit the band's official website for further details.
