State Police say 19-year-old Garth Johnson of Caribou was driving a 2006 Chevrolet pickup on Main Street in Stockholm shortly after 11:30 p.m., and had stopped at the traffic light on the bridge, which is under construction.

Johnson started to cross the bridge, and did not see 26-year-old Reighel Waugh, who was wearing dark clothing and walking along the roadway, according to Sgt. Brian Harris.  The front corner of the pickup struck Waugh, knocking her to the ground.  Waugh sustained leg and head injuries and was transported by ambulance to Cary Medical Center for treatment.

There was no damage to Johnson’s vehicle and he was not injured.  Johnson and other motorists provided assistance to the young woman until the ambulance arrived, Harris said.

Trooper Corey Hafford and Trooper Dennis Quint responded to the scene, as did Caribou Ambulance and Crown Ambulance.  No charges were filed in the accident.
