Woman Appealing Murder Conviction and 55 Year Sentence in Maine
A 41-year-old woman is appealing her murder conviction after she was sentenced to 55 years in prison.
Convicted of Stabbing Woman
Kailie Brackett was found guilty of stabbing 43-year-old Kim Neptune multiple times in April 2022. Neptune’s body was found in her residence on Pleasant Point in Perry with almost 500 stab wounds.
Footprint Evidence
Brackett is appealing the conviction and arguing that evidence of a bloody sock-clad footprint did not meet a scientific basis, said court records.
Autopsy Photos and Cell Tower Info
She also claims the judge abused his discretion by allowing six autopsy photos to be used in the trial and the state misstated cell tower evidence, according to WABI News.
State Said Evidence is Reliable
Prosecutors said the bloody footprint evidence had peer reviews and was reliable. The state also said the autopsy photos were used to establish central parts of the case and cell info did not affect the jury.
